UK MARTIN AUDIO Provides a New Sound System for "Kyoto Water"

2020-07-14 · Featured Projects

Aqua London, which occupies 15,000 square metres, sits on the top floor of the former Dickins & Jones department store. It is made up of three very different dining areas: the pre-dinner bar Aqua Spirit, the Spanish restaurant Aqua Nueva and the Japanese restaurant Aqua Kyoto. Aqua Kyoto, the "water of Kyoto", showcases the Japanese cool of Tokyo's Ginza and reimagines contemporary Japanese cuisine, making it one of the most unmissable Japanese restaurants around London's Regent Street, and its open-air bar on the big terrace that the whole city has its eye on is a superb place to take in the unbeatable London views. Children have their own little dreams too, and they grow and soar together within those dreams.

Aqua is an upscale restaurant chain headquartered in Hong Kong. Aqua means "water", so Aqua Kyoto is, as the name suggests, the "water of Kyoto". The decor and furnishings of Aqua Kyoto blend Eastern style, and a design built mainly around charcoal radiates a rich sense of Zen, quiet and pure.

More than a decade ago Martin Audio had already provided a complete audio solution for the old site, leaving a deep impression on the investors. The AQ series architectural speakers in the open-air terrace area performed especially well and served for a very long time. But with this restaurant renovation management had new requirements, and as the conveyor-belt sushi and the sushi workstation were removed the interior changed as well, so a better sound system was urgently needed.

The focus of the sound system was the large terrace, where the ageing AQ series was replaced by four Martin Audio CDD6-WR (weather-resistant) speakers bolted to the beams, with an SX210 subwoofer placed in the corner, giving the new system a deep, warm sound. In the indoor bar area, management specified four powerful CDD10 full-range speakers fixed to the ceiling, plus a pair of CSX212 (2 x 12") subwoofers.

In the main dining area, nine Martin Audio C8.1T ceiling speakers were resprayed to match the decor. The system's back-end control and zoning stayed the same, but the amplifiers were upgraded to VIA four-channel amplifiers, while the 8-track music continues to be managed according to the client's profile and supplied as playlists.

Martin Audio's sound really suits the Aqua restaurant, especially in the evening, when everyone comes alive because of the music.
